This course provides an advanced exploration of the principles and practice of local anaesthesia administration within podiatry. Attendees will critically evaluate the pharmacological principles, legal frameworks, and clinical governance requirements that support safe and effective local anaesthetic use by HCPC-registered podiatrists under the Prescription Only Medicines (POM) administration annotation. Emphasis is placed on the development of advanced clinical reasoning to assess patient suitability for podiatric surgical procedures, incorporating risk assessment, contraindications, and informed consent.

Course Description
Attendees will analyse the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities associated with anaesthetic administration, guided by current legislation, scope of practice, and professional standards. The course also focuses on the application of detailed anatomical knowledge to the selection and execution of injection techniques in the foot and ankle, including the prevention and management of potential complications, to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
